Children in the Wilderness Otjinungua clinic

Providing Otjinungua village with a basic health care facility

We are very happy to have been able to support (at the last minute) a Children in the Wilderness Otjinungua clinic in the Kunene region. This is related to the school in the Mariennfluss Conservancy area where we supported the building of the Eco Garden. The closest town Opuwo is roughly 340km from the area and when people are sick they have to be taken by cars from the conservation teams to the hospital.

The project had been set up and funded by organisations and stakeholders, but due to the closure of some small companies (Covid-19 related) there was a deficit in the budget which GTT was able to fill!

The clinic will offer among others:

·         Vaccinations for children

·         Wound care

·         Basic government medication for rural health centres including intravenous fluids and contraception for the community

·         Will act as point of entry for all ill-health related conditions and refer to Opuwo if critical

·         Child delivery

·         Awareness program on hygiene, health and nutrition for the school children. Grade 5 to 7 will get separate session on sex education.

We will keep you posted as we have more news.
