GTT Summer Camps

Every year, GTT organised summer camps in both Italy and the UK, immersing participants in the wonders of wildlife and nature. The settings were unforgettable: a sunny hilltop vineyard, a camp nestled within a wildlife park, a hideaway deep in a lush English forest — and one summer, a research boat in the Ligurian Sea.

These were proper adventures. GTT members embraced the elements and willingly disconnected from mobile phones and electricity. At the UK camp, water was heated over a fire and every meal was prepared by hand from local produce. We always camped in tents or slept out under the stars, and members certainly faced — and overcame — their fears on more than one occasion.

The camps were valuable platforms for learning about conservation and the significance of biodiversity. A performing arts theme ran through some of the activities, but the core focus was always on cultivating a genuine appreciation for the natural world. As a culmination of everything they had learned, members staged a show at the end of each week, sharing their newfound knowledge and talents.

Beyond the education, the camps built bonds. Group activities designed to encourage trust and teamwork forged lasting friendships — and no camp was entirely without the occasional drama or unexpected turn of events! It was often through those very challenges that the most valuable lessons in resilience and adaptability were learned.

The GTT Summer Camps were an escape into the wilderness and a lesson in responsibility towards our environment — transformative experiences blending education, creativity and adventure, leaving members with memories and skills that will last far beyond the final campfire.
