Coram’s Fields
Three years of the City Nature Club at London’s Coram’s Fields, helping city children watch the seasons turn across seven green acres of their own.
For three happy years, GTT worked with the after-school club at Coram’s Fields in London. In 2017, we set up the City Nature Club to create ‘Coram’s Fields’ Seasons’ — helping city children discover how nature changes through the year, right in the middle of London.
If you don’t know it, Coram’s Fields is an amazing place: a seven-acre city garden square used exclusively by children and young people. There is a youth centre, a children’s centre, a community nursery, sports and after-school programmes, an adventure playground, a city farm and a café. It is living proof that nature and wildness belong in cities too — and that young people deserve green space of their very own.
In 2018, we were very honoured to be asked to help with the new onsite Nature Garden, which was due to open that spring. For a short but special period, we helped support the children and staff in the upkeep of the garden, working in collaboration with the Bat Conservation Trust and the Bee Friendly Society.
The City Nature Club captured one of GTT’s founding beliefs: you don’t need a rainforest or a national park to fall in love with nature. Sometimes all you need is seven acres, a few raised beds, and a group of curious young people watching the seasons turn.
